Over the years I’ve collected a lot of ideas about how to save time in the kitchen and fix healthier meals. Here are a few-I’d love to hear your ideas!
Save time and feed the family healthier meals with these 25 time hacks for better eating. What are your time saving ideas?
- Plan a time to plan: menus, shopping, grocery stashing, prepping, cooking, clean up.
- Use grocery pick up at Walmart.com or other grocery stores. Or try Instacart or Amazon.com/fresh
- Plan your menus for the week! This seems counter-intuitive, but it works.
- Choose dishes that have fewer ingredients and don’t have many steps.
- Use lots of frozen vegetables.
- Plan uses for leftovers and cook double batches when possible.
- Read through recipes completely before starting them, or even before choosing them!
- Always prep as much ahead as you can-whether it’s the night before, the morning of or even the weekend before.
- Plan prep time to minimize washing bowls, knives, cutting boards, etc.-group veggies together, meats together, etc. so you don’t have to wash so much.
- Use parchment paper to line sheet pans.
- Figure out who can help you do what-you need help!
- Keep a pantry stocked with items for emergency meals.
- Memorize pantry meals or put recipes close by-maybe even taped in the pantry.
- Use your slow cooker.
- Cook extra big batches and use your freezer.
- Go shopping without your kids if possible.
- Take care of your groceries right away-prep what you can.
- Make sauces and dressings in batches.
- Don’t peel potatoes, zucchini and summer squash, eggplant and carrots, but do scrub well.
- Batch whatever you do-chop garlic and onions for the week, wash all the lettuce at once, when you bake one chicken, bake two, etc.
- Use time saving tools-food processor, spiralizer with a crank.
- Try to use your food processor only once a week and batch all your chopping and processing.
- Keep your knives sharp-save time and fingers!
- Be flexible-life is always changing!
- Be kind to yourself-sometimes picking up pizza is the best you can do!
